Hi, everybody
I don't know whether this is new or I simply didn't realize it: Although I always try to keep individual topics as short as possible, sometimes I do have to save a long article in order to keep everything together. And now I'm wondering why I can't jump from the top to the bottom (and viceversa) of such a longer document via  shortcut, usually by something like Ctrl-PageDown or Ctrl-CursorUp etc. The only way to get to the end or beginning is by scrolling.

I hope this is not an option to be activated within the configuration menu (at least I haven't find it).
BTW: This was also the reason why I didn't really enjoy using CT for some weeks because the (formerly default) shortcut for autoproposal (Ctrl-Space) had not been activated by default and it took me quite a long time to discover this in the keyboard options.

Regards
Julian

Hi Julian,

this should work, at least it does on my machine:

Rendered View - you may have to click into the window first
 * Pgup, PgDown - to jump a screen's length
 * Home (to top of page), End (to bottom of page)
 * use anchors [[#anchorname]], then jump to them with [[#anchorname|GoToAnchor]]
 * use headings and display View > Table of Contents to quickly jump around in a long topic. However this last option has a few quirks I don't want to get into now

Edit View
 * Ctrl Home, Ctrl End - to go to the top or bottom
 * PgUp, PgDown - scroll a screen's length
 * use bookmarks (not from the Menu, these are across projects), but within a topic by clicking in front of a line)

thanks for your replies. I should have said: Rendered View and - honestly speaking - I exptected the same navigation behaviour in both View and Edit mode.

OK, so far, but then? Undecided
How can I jump (with ONE shortcut) from the bottom to the top just as in edit mode? I think this might be true for 98% of all windows software, but even if there where another shortcut option ...
Of course, it is not a big problem, but IMHO worth asking why ...,

use headings and display View
I'm really in love with this option and I use it a lot, but sometimes I just want to jump directly to the other "edge" of a long document.

Best regards

Hi Julian,

well, HOME should do the trick, at least it does so on my system.

A bit more elaborate, to make sure we talk about the same thing:

Rendered View, I am scrolling down and further down, using either the mousewheel, or the cursor keys, or PgDown, or the scrollbar - take your pick, until I am lost in the middle or have reached the very bottom of my deep sea topic.

Now, here it comes: ONE single hit on the key labeled HOME (Pos1 on the German keyboard), et voila, that should send you shooting up to the surface in no time.

Apologizes to Eduardo ...  Undecided

I wasn't aware of the fact that one has to activate the topic before in order for this shortcut to work. OK, no problem.
I usually try to keep my fingers on the keyboard as much as possible so clicking first into the topic was not an obvious option for me, but right now I discovered that hitting the tab key before seems to be a reliable workaround.

You have a very good point there, Julian. Strange coincidence that it never consciously occured to me until today, when I was browsing in CT with my laptop during a train ride w/o mouse. I suddenly encountered the same problem.

At home, I automatically switch the focus back to the topic, by always selecting text with the mouse (to land right there in Edit-mode). But today I realized that with all my docked windows, it actually takes several Tabs to cycle from TOC to History etc., until I eventually wind up in my topic window again.

I wonder if it makes sense to implement another way of getting the focus back? Maybe Enter or Ctrl-Enter?

You don't have to use tabs. You can use Alt+number to go to the desired view.

Of course, thanks for the hint. Sometimes I am drowning in my own mental quagmire, and need someone to throw me a line like that. It sure pays to click around the menus from time to time.

Thanks
